DVD Update for week of March 26th

Susan Granger’s DVD update for week of Friday, March 26:

“The Twilight Saga: New Moon” is the second installment in Stephanie Meyer’s best-selling post-modern Romeo and Juliet series about a teenager’s infatuation with vampires and werewolves in the Pacific Northwest. The DVD also contains a six-part, behind-the-scenes documentary, band rehearsal footage with Muse and music videos.

The documentary “Twilight in Forks: The Saga of a Real Town” profiles the town located four hours northwest of Seattle, WA.  Forks is both a real place and the fictional home of Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner), a member of the mysterious Quileute tribe. And “The Real Wolfman” from A&E/History Channel delves deep into the folklore, uncovering truths behind werewolf legends.

“Banshee” is a creature feature spinning off the legendary Irish myth, involving college kids on a camping trip who are stalked and slashed by an unknown creature with the ability to make them hallucinate through sound waves.

In his directorial debut, John Kraskinski (“The Office”) creates an amusing look at the battle of the sexes in the Sundance favorite, “Brief Interviews With Hideous Men” about a graduate student (Julienne Nicholson) who talks with random men about why they have mistreated the women in their lives.

From French director Cedric Klapisch, “Paris,” starring Juliette Binoche, is the story of a seriously ill young man, a dancer with the famed Moulin Rouge, facing an uncertain future who discovers that hope comes in the most unlikely forms.

For children, “Sing and Learn Spanish” and “Sing and Learn English” teach bilingual skills through songs. Whether teaching a second language or preserving native language at home, music is a key to learning. Plus there’s “Bob the Builder: Heavy Duty Diggers” hard at work in their new Harbor Town location.

PICK OF THE WEEK: Based on a true story and nominated for a Best Picture Academy Award, “The Blind Side” stars Oscar-winner Sandra Bullock as a suburban Memphis mother who takes in a homeless teenager, Michael Oher, making him part of her football-crazed family, helping him fulfill his potential on and off the football field.
